Museum Services has provided Conservation and Restoration services to the Twin Cities for over thirty years. Our comprehensive conservation and restoration services are tailored to meet the unique needs of each piece that comes into our hands. From cleaning family heirlooms to resorting to a 10' x 8’ wall relief, we handle projects of multitude of sizes.

We always begin with a thorough examination and assessment of each artwork to determine the best approach and materials. We offer specialized treatments for a variety of art forms.

Paintings

Our services include surface cleaning, varnish removal, repair of tears and holes, stabilizing lifting paint, retouching losses and applying varnish. Additionally, our frame shop can restore stretchers, replace glazing, and re-strech canvas as needed.

Objects

We repair various materials such as stone, ceramics, plaster and more. Our object services include cleaning, recreating losses, consolidation and surface finishing treatments.

Metals

MSI offers specialized care for metal sculptures, silver tableware, and other metal objects. We provide indoor and outdoor cleaning, patina management, tarnish or rust removal, waxing, and buffing. Additionally, routine maintenance plans can be arranged to ensure your sculpture’s condition remains the same for the life of the work.

Wood

For sculptures, furniture, ornate frames, and artifacts, we provide cleaning, filling, reconstruction, retouching, and finishing services.

Fire and Water Damage

Our team can work directly with you or your insurance company in restoring artwork to its previous condition in the result of an accident. Items damaged by fire and water to address issues such as soot, mold and smoke odor removal. We use IAC conservation standard techniques and equipment necessary to return the items to their original condition. 

Partnering with MSI Framing we are able to extend the life of artworks after restoration.

Corporate Collections

Month, quarterly, annual, or bi annual onsite cleaning services are offered. 

Contact Museum Services for a free estimate

To begin assessment of your artwork, please send photos, dimensions, and concerns regarding the artwork to our conservator Jean Ockuly.  jean@museumservices.org.

Jean will then make an appointment with you to bring your item to Museum Services. The artwork will be examined and tested. You will be contacted within ten days with the estimated cost and treatment lead time. 

If you need our services for transporting the artwork, or if an onsite visit is necessary, the conservator will direct you to schedule with our operations manager.
