Mary Reid | Spring Break | Oil on paper | 2004
This painting is based on a photograph I took last summer near Aspen, Colarado. My partner was attending an arts workshop at Anderson Ranch, and I was spending lots of time in the hotel with my sketchbook, MTV and a digital camera. I cut these "girls" out of a page in my sketchbook, made little boats for them, and took them down to the hotel pool. My goal was to photograph them without anyone asking me what I thought I was doing. I like the idea of painting photographs of drawings.
