Dale Johnson | Point No Point | Oil on Canvas | 2001

One cloudy summer day a friend and I stood on the banks of Lake Pepin and painted the vast river space while an old whirly-gig-maker who owned the property stood telling stories about how many walleyes had been caught at Point No Point. As the painting developed, I noticed two fishermen in a small boat anchor just off this point and began to fish just as predicted by this old man. I can remember the excitement of registering the subtle blue greys in the marsh and distant Mississippi River as these whirly-gig-inventions squeaked and spun.
