Margaret L. Holmes | Pub in Blue  | Photography  | 2004

My mother and I had taken a vacation we had talked about on and off for several years. After a bad start with our luggage going ahead of us to Shannon and being rained in and airports closed in New Jersey, we were actually in Ireland. The only day we could break away from the bus tour was while in Dublin. We walked up and down Grafton Street shopping. Then we went looking for an official pub for lunch and a glass of Guinness, choosing a side street with the most unusual sign outside. The waiter was Asian so I don't know how much he understood us as he had limited English. We asked for an egg salad sandwich and had to describe it. What came was two pieces of white bread with a hard boiled egg sliced and laying in-between. We looked at each other and laughed.

I loved all woodwork and details that come with a sense of history. I wanted to try to capture the pub/lunch atmosphere that is so prevalent in Ireland.
