Steven Rydberg | Houdini’s Watchstand | Acrylic and Oil wash on Board | 1999

HOUDINI'S WATCHSTAND was painted as a commemorative poster for sale. There were no design constraints. I work best if given a long tether. It pictures the actual watch stand Houdini would place on stage during his act. The black cat and Houdini reference were because of the mystic number 13. I art directed and painted the piece, which was printed locally. It won an award from PRINT magazine and received the GOLD MEDAL for Advertising Art from THE SOCIETY OF ILLUSTRATORS, Los Angeles, 2000.  Signed copies of the poster are available through the artist.
